GreenOak announced today that Toby Phelps has joined the firm as a Partner, with responsibility for Europe. Mr. Phelps’ focus will be on GreenOak’s principal equity investing, asset management, and advisory businesses in the United Kingdom and Europe, working closely with John Carrafiell, Founding Partner.
Since its launch in 2010, GreenOak has raised $2.6 billion of discretionary equity capital and manages $4.5 billion of gross assets globally.
Mr. Phelps commented: “I’m delighted to return to GreenOak at a very exciting time for the firm. With over $1.2 billion of committed discretionary capital to deploy for equity and debt opportunities and a highly talented and dedicated team, I believe GreenOak is uniquely placed to continue to execute its highly targeted investment strategies.”
Mr. Carrafiell commented: “Having made a series of in our view well-timed acquisitions in London in 2012/2013, alongside establishing an active senior lending programme filling a vacuum left in the UK market — coupled with our well established value-add strategy focused on Spain — Toby joins the firm at an interesting time in the European landscape.”
Mr. Phelps is the former CEO of the Investa Office Fund (a $2.2 billion asset Australian REIT) and former Managing Director and Head of the United Kingdom for Tishman Speyer Properties in London. He has been involved in over £10 billion of real estate transactions over his career, ranging across sectors, and across transaction types, from asset transactions to the formation of large multi-investor funds. Mr. Phelps has been focused on the United Kingdom and Europe, for the majority of his 20-year career, and has functioned in many capacities, including principal investor, asset manager, corporate financier and advisor.
